Most creative businesses of Cannes Lions 2023 revealed in new report

Apple wins Creative Brand of the Year

The 2023 LIONS Creativity Report, which ranks the most creative businesses in the world based on their performance at the 2023 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, has been released.

The report features company rankings, trends and themes from the winning work, along with insights, analysis and interviews with Lions Jurors and Lion-winning creators.

Taking the top spot for Creative Company of the Year was Omnicom for its Newspapers Inside the Newspaper campaign. The special edition of the AnNahar Newspaper was used to promote press freedom, and sold out on the day of publication, taking the Print & Publishing Grand Prix at the 2023 Cannes Lions Festival.

DDB Worldwide won the Network of the Year as it scooped a Film Lions Grand Prix for The Last Photo for ITV x CALM through adam&eveDDB London. Other notable wins included a new take on influencer marketing that recruited friends of celebrities.

Apple took the top spot in the Creative Brand of the Year rankings for the first time after scooping three Grands Prix and 26 additional Lions, its highest ever number.

The LIONS Creativity Report also features seven Regional Network of the Year awards and 12 global awards, including Creative Company, Network, Agency, Independent Network, Independent Agency, Creative Brand and Palme d’Or, as well as Health Network, Health Agency, Media Network, Agency by Track, and Independent Agency by Track of the Year.

“At the Festival this year, the most highly rated sessions had one thing in common: they provided a blueprint for how to introduce the conditions for creative success. And this report, bringing together winning work, insights from jurors and winners, and rankings, aims to provide you with everything you need to do the same. The trends and themes we have identified will propel you into the year ahead and help you achieve creativity that drives progress and growth.”

Simon Cook, CEO, LIONS

In addition to the rankings, the report outlined the key trends and themes of the winning work, which included Back to Brand, Go for Growth, Community-first Creativity, Reset with AI, and Seize the Future.
