D&AD announces 2023 Awards shortlist

International judges shortlisted 1,261 entries, from a record of 12,243, made up of nearly 30,000 individual pieces of work

Today D&AD announces the shortlist for this year’s D&AD Awards across all categories, ahead of the Pencil winners being revealed in two ceremonies taking place at the BFI Southbank, London, on 24 and 25 May.

The D&AD Awards set the benchmark for creative excellence, with the D&AD Pencil recognised globally as the ultimate creative accolade, entered and judged by the best from around the world. Now in its 61st consecutive year, the D&AD Awards have grown to incorporate more than 40 categories, judged by nearly 400 of the world’s leading creatives from across the full spectrum of design, advertising, craft, production and impact disciplines.

This year, D&AD challenged the industry to MAKE.CHANGE. Celebrating creative excellence today, D&AD strives to uncover insights and share tools to empower. Pencil-winning work leaves an important and lasting legacy, informing the future of commercial creativity globally.

The 2023 Awards saw the following category developments 342 international judges gathered in London to make up 41 juries across Design, Advertising, Craft, Culture and Impact disciplines, including: Book Design, Branding, Commerce, Entertainment, Gaming & Virtual Worlds, Illustration, Media, Product Design, Type Design & Lettering, Writing for Advertising, and Writing for Design.

All 1,261 shortlisted pieces are showcased on the D&AD website.
